Tom,
ViewVC operates near the top of a stack of software dependencies, and I
think you're failing to understand the various layers here. ViewVC is
pure Python code which (when used with Subversion) depends on the
Subversion SWIG-generated Python bindings, which themselves depend on
both Python and Subversion. Something like this:
ViewVC
/ \
/ SVN-SWIG
\ / \
Python Subversion
The problem you are seeing on your system is a mismatch between the
version of Python that SVN-SWIG was compiled against and the version of
Python actually present at runtime. This has absolutely nothing to do
with ViewVC. ViewVC runs just fine on both CentOS 6 and CentOS 7 /so
long as the SVN-SWIG library on that system was compiled against the
correct version of the Python for that system./
It would seem that the folks at WANDisco have provided RPMs for
Subversion and SVN-SWIG that don't work in your environment. You really
should contact them with your questions and concerns.
As an aside, you can't really "install" Subversion from apache.org,
because the Subversion developers don't provide RPMs or other binary
builds. They only provide source code (that other folks, like WANDisco,
compiled into binaries). But another option that might work for you
would be to download something like CollabNet's Subversion Edge
(http://www.collab.net/downloads/subversion), which includes Subversion
1.9.4, ViewVC, and a web-based console for remote administration of your
repositories.
