I was planning to take a closer look at these changes.

My laptop is a Thinkpad T400 (it had Windows Vista pre-installed when it
was new). It works well for me but I guess a Windows VM wont be much
fun. My workstation at work would be okay but the OS is (still) 32 bit,
which doesn't play well with the virtualization stuff nowadays (I can't
even run docker images).

I can try to "appropriate" a Windows VM on a blade server at work.
Anyway, it has been ages since I last worked on Windows and I will
probably have a hard time getting to the point where I can compile
darcs. Will try though.
