Vault stores information about your working folders, including baseline copies of every file, in folders called _sgvault. Sometimes these are stored as subfolders inside your working folders. Some people didn't like this, so we created the option to place them in the appdata hierarchy. The contents of these folders can get rather large over time. Unfortunately, they never shrink, and Vault contains no tools to help manage them. We intend to address these problems in future releases, although I'll have to admit that our upcoming 2.0 release still doesn't improve things in this area. Keeping your _sgvault folders inside your working folders is somewhat better with respect to making the management of disk space easier: If you delete your entire working folder, all that extra stuff gets deleted as well. The downside of storing this stuff in appdata is that it makes it harder to know when it is safe to clean it up. Nonetheless, the same general idea applies: 1. If you delete all your working folders, then it is safe to delete all the stuff in appdata. 2. If you delete your working folders and do not delete the stuff in appdata, you simply orphan the files and the only harm is wasted disk space. 3. If you just delete the stuff in appdata, all the files in your working folders will lose their status information. The size of this folder (including its subfolders) is about 850 mb (which is about 3 times the size of our complete sourcegear database!). What are these folders for and is there a way to keep their size a little bit smaller?
