Brian,

Thanks for the information, but I think we are not on the same page. I'm
talking about the SDC Build tool
(http://www.gotdotnet.com/Community/UserSamples/Details.aspx?SampleGuid=
2cb20e79-d706-4706-9ea0-26188257ee7d) which was developed in by MS UK to
be used in their Solution Development Center. So the integration story
with vault might be different then with Build It
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnbda/
html/tdlg_app.asp)

From looking at the source code it should be easy to add vault support
to it. They provide out-of-the-box support for SourceSafe and
SourceDepot (the configuration management tool Microsoft uses
internally). The integration point for both CM tools is the command line
interface. The same approach could be followed for integrating Vault.

I might look into it once I find the time ...

Michael

Michael,

I've looked at working with Build It but frankly Visual SourceSafe is
tightly integrated. If you look at the Build It page on MSDN you'll
note that they haven't provided any sort of generic source code control
interface
- it was ditched due to time constraints. As well Build It doesn't have
enough OOMPH yet for me to consider using daily. It's a nice 1.0
product but it doesn't have enough features to compete yet with the
others.

The SourceSafeHelper class is used just about everywhere, especially
inside of the BuildManager class. It would be possible to produce a
version that worked with Vault but it would require gutting the existing
support for VSS.
If they release a version that has a less tightly integrated SCC
provider it'd be fairly easy to integrate it. It might be possible to
create that integration myself but I'd be deathly afraid of the
maintenance on such a release with future releases of Build It looming.

(I'm getting fairly decent at writing small tools to pull data down for
Vault, especially since a great deal of the code is common. ;p)

Brian

I'm wondering if someone has integrated vault with Microsoft's SDC Build
Tool?
