RE: Connection Delay?

ASP.NET appears to be configured to recycle its worker process at some
interval less than a day. It then looks like it's taking a really long time
to load and JIT compile the Vault web service and connect to the database.
These tasks shouldn't take ten minutes - I'm running Vault as a single user
on my own system (2.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM, single IDE HDD, Windows XP Pro, MSDE
2000), and it starts up within a few seconds. Is there a lot of auditing
enabled? Does the Vault service log show anything?

I suggest initially preventing ASP.NET from recycling the worker process. If
your Vault server is running on IIS 5.x (Windows 2000 or XP) the
configuration for this is in the MACHINE.CONFIG file in
%SystemRoot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\[frameworkver]\CONFIG\Machine.config,
where [frameworkver] is the version of ASP.NET that's currently registered -
either v1.0.3705 or v1.1.4322. You should modify the idleTimeout attribute
of the processModel element, setting it to Infinite (or maybe a week or so).

If you're running on Windows Server 2003, I think the settings are somewhere
in the Internet Services Manager interface - I don't have a copy to hand at
present.
