This is what I am looking for, to find out if it is a problem people have come across before or if it is isolated to just me. If just me, then probably some configuration or status of document within Visual Studios in which this is happening. Like I said, most time don't have problem, but rare few times have lost recent changes. I will focus on exactly what we are doing to try and isolate this to user, system configuration, or software isolation. But to be honest, I am skeptical. You are obviously experiencing some sort of a problem. I just find it difficult to believe the automerge code is at fault. I have personally used the automerge feature of Vault thousands of times. It has never, ever produced incorrect results. There has never been a confirmed incident where any user lost code due to the automerge implementation. Never. The automerge code is extensively tested. There is a test suite of several hundred test cases, everything from the common to the pathological. The code is also tested using a randomized test suite. It passes every test, and has done so since well before 1.0 shipped. The automerge code has been virtually unchanged for well over a year, because there have been no bugs found in it. I mean no offense by offering this pushback. I merely want to keep a sense of balance. Given the track record behind this particular piece of code, I think it deserves to be defended until a reproducible bug is confirmed. -- Eric Sink Software Craftsman http://software.ericsink.com/ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Clayton Dool Sent: Tuesday, March 30, 2004 12:01 PM To: Vault-List (E-mail) Subject: [vault-list] Bug in automerge Several times now we have lost code by saying "attempt automerge" when getting latest. Have been unable to identify exact steps done to reproduce. Code will be open in VS 2003 and a get latest is performed through vault client. While the idea of the changes made in VS were not saved when performing get latest, on several occasions when this has happened, I know they were saved. Does not happen every time, nor consistent enought to identify exact steps to reproduce it.
