We can't really do any formal comparisons against Team Foundation Server (TFS) just yet. No beta has been released, and the product release is probably almost a year away. We just don't have the facts we need to do a good comparison. Having said that, we are collecting comparison datapoints that we *think* are true, based on tidbits Microsoft has dropped in blogs and various presentations: 1. It is rumored that TFS will be very expensive. Current MSDN Universal subscribers will not be getting TFS. 2. TFS will not support integration with Visual Studio 2005, but not with any previous versions of Visual Studio or with any other IDEs. 3. TFS will not support the Share and Pin operations from SourceSafe. 4. TFS will not include any clients for non-Windows platforms. For now, that's about all we've got, and I don't even think we can consider these issues to be set in stone until TFS is finally released. Vault 2.1 is currently under development. We've been targeting a release in September, but I'd have to say October is more realistic. This release will include a bunch of small-to-medium improvements plus integration with Dragnet, our new bug-tracking tool, which will be released simultaneously. The feature set for Vault 3.0 is currently under discussion. I won't name a date. -- Eric Sink Software Craftsman http://software.ericsink.com/ -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] = [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Chris = Mullins Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 12:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [vault-list] Vault Vs.
