Unfortunately that seemed to generate another error: 

configure.in:8: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_LIBTOOL_DLOPEN
      If this token and others are legitimate, please use
m4_pattern_allow.
      See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.in:9: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_PROG_LIBTOOL
include/Makefile.am:: variable `include_HEADERS' not defined

Try running "autogen.sh", this re-generates configure.
