Problem getting started

Hello, I was using TortoiseSVN but want to switch to standalone application. I added a bookmark for working copy, I can see my local files now but the status column is empty! Somehow I have the impression I don't understand some fundamental concepts behind RapidSVN, I wonder how other people have found out how it works, I could not find any hint in the help or mailing list why it don't display the status and how it can be fixed, I hope somebody has a idea what I'm missing.
