Well, if status is empty this means nothing has changed in this file. 
You will see a textual description if a file or folder is modified, 
unversioned, and so on.

It's a good idea to read about the general concepts of Subversion at 
http://www.svnbook.org and also to create a local play repository (using 
the svnadmin command line) and working copy and test different scenarios.
