RE: Is "Subversion Client Adapter" really required?

I now installed the Adapter.
After the suggested restart of Eclipse..... I don't see any difference ;-)

Except it being now listed in About Eclipse → Installation Details → Installed Software

One of the misteries of life, I guess...
