The version of your server should not matter as any SVN client version can talk to it. I believe SVNAnt requires SVN 1.6, or perhaps even 1.5 due to the version of svnClientAdapter that it includes. So you would need that version of the libraries too. I've never used SVNAnt, so just suggestion based on the error.
