If you are able to download and install the MS JVM we have available on our 
website, you should be able to run the SOS Server on Windows 2003. If you 
encounter installation problems, though, we suggest you install on another 
machine. Details are in our on-line KB article:

What version of VSS do you have? SOS 3.5.3 supports versions 5 and 6. SOS 
4.0 supports only VSS 6.
The VSS 6.0 releases have bugs in the Automation Component that may cause 
concurrency crashes. There are fixes for these, depending on which version 
you have.

We still don't recommend using SOS 4.0 for production. But it is certainly 
ready for evaluation.

SOS 4.0 does support 3.5.3 clients, but there are new features in SOS 4.0, 
such as merge on get, that are only available if you have a 4.0 client.

SOS 4.0 is written in C#, and does not rely on the MS JVM. It should not 
have a problem with dual network cards.

SOS does not need to be on the same machine as the VSS database, just on 
the same LAN. We recommend installing SOS on a machine that works. : )

SOS 4.0 should be in final release in about a month, so you should be able 
to meet your June deadline with no problem.
