Yes, box modelling can be done in Blender. It is one of the simplest techniques. Start with a simple cube, and using the extrude and scaling tools on the various faces it is possible to build pretty much anything. The advantage is that your model is a single piece, making it much easier to animate than if it was constructed from separate elements. Different faces can be textured and colored by selecting that face and creating a new material index before applying the color/texture.
