Hi there Michael. Is this what you're after?

www.makeanote.org/SamplePic.jpg

This was roughly put together in about 5 minutes. I created a single
icosphere, then duplicated 4 times on x and y axis to keep everything
'square'. I then added a cylinder, scaling it along x and y axis to
match the grid of icospheres. Next, I duplicated a 5th cylinder,
rotated 45 degrees on the z axis and duplicated 3 others, moving them
to each corner and checked that they met at a central point in the
middle. Finally, I added a 5th icosphere and positioned it in the
center of the square grid (from top view), then repositioned via front
/ side views.

If this is what you're after, I'll post the .blend file for you to
download if you want.
