Hey, a question I feel I can answer! No, I don't think it would hinder your ability to model. I do think that a feel for sculpting helps, though. A lot of work in a modeling program is technique, and being able to "see" in 3d. Practice has to be done even if you are intrinsically a great sculpter. Try searching online for tutorials on sculpting things, like faces, heads, hand, car, whatever you're interested in, and you'll learn a lot from them. The "buttons" may be found elsewhere, but the principles are the same.
