Hi there Josh. Welcome to the group!

Probably the easiest way to do this is to keyframe the layer change.

Here's a simple example to give you an idea:
* Open Blender - select the default cube
* Press 'M' and move the cube to layer 2 (click the 2nd button of 20)
* Press '2' on the top row of the keyboard to move to layer 2
* Press 'I' to insert a [Layer] key
* Move to frame 100 [press the right arrow or up arrow to advance]
* Press 'M' and move the cube to layer 1 (click the 1st button of 20)
* Press '1' on the top row of the keyboard to move to layer 1
* Press 'I' to insert a [Layer] key
* Return to frame 1 [SHIFT + [Left Arrow] will snap to frame 1]
* View the animation [Alt + A]
## You should see the cube appear on layer 1 after 100 frames.

Please reply if you require any more assistance or if this isn't what you were after.
