Looking inside configure the test that fails, "Thread dependent plug-ins" seems to be looking for pthread.h and nothing in FLTK. The pthread.h file is in /usr/include/npl. It looks like the problem is in configure.in or a pthread m4 macro, not Debian. I'm not fluent enough with autoconf to fix what's wrong.
