Could this be due to using a later version of glib I wonder. 2) I went ahead with configure anyway, and it complained that first I needed gettext, so I built that first. All this done in /sw. I'm using --prefix=/sw per your recommendation and also because having used macports already, I have libs in /opt/local, and don't want them to conflict with these builds. 3) then the configure for glib failed with this error: *** You must have either have gettext support in your C library, or use the *** GNU gettext library. (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/gettext.html ) If you think I need glib-1.2.10 instead of 2.14, and know where to find it, that may be the problem here. thanks very much for your help.
