Hi Tom,

I didn't find glib-1.2.10, instead I grabbed 2.14, which could have
caused the following error when I followed your instructions:

1) I didn't find G_GNUC_PRETTY_FUNCTION in gstrfuncs.c .  Could this
be due to using a later version of glib I wonder.
2) I went ahead with configure anyway, and it complained that first I
needed gettext, so I built that first. All this done in /sw. I'm
using --prefix=/sw per your recommendation and also because having
used macports already, I have libs in /opt/local, and don't want them
to conflict with these builds.
3) then the configure for glib failed with this error:
*** You must have either have gettext support in your C library, or
use the
*** GNU gettext library. (http://www.gnu.org/software/gettext/gettext.html
)

If you think I need glib-1.2.10 instead of 2.14, and know where to
find it, that may be the problem here.

thanks very much for your help.
Rob
