controversial question (could be my fault).

I have available on my MacBook Pro (Intel) running Leopard the following 3 image apps: 1) Cinepaint as the latest OSX build from Eric Robinson, I believe this is v0.22. 2) The Gimp version (?) I grabbed it last week and hope it's the latest. Hard to tell under X what v. it is. 3) Adobe Lightroom v. 1.3.1., 30-day trial. I shot several NEF (RAW Nikon) frames today at work in low light levels, with the same exposure settings for each. Without tweaking any settings in the programs above, my observations are: Cinepaint: a lot of detail, but a lot of grain(noise). noise remained when I dropped the blacks to try to hide grain-noise. The Gimp: very little grain, but severely lacking in detail; almost looked out-of-focus when compared to the Cinepaint image. Adobe Lightroom: very little grain, and very good sharpness. in other words, Adobe Lightroom, in absence of any pre-processing tweaks with the other programs, won handily. Is there something I'm doing wrong with Cinepaint ? I would be most happy to find out that this is so. I can provide the images to anyone who is interested, as file saves from the 3 apps. -- Rob Lingelbach [email protected] http://www.colorist.org/robhome.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
