The app should have some control over paths if it uses a start up script.
The DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH paths are honoured in written order.
DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH=$bundle_path/lib_with_libcinepaint:...
should do.

Then there might be a rpath issue. Eric, can you check your build that 
/sw/lib is not passed as a compiler or linker argument?
