You're right. For some reason, photoshop (cs3) seems to think that the exr I used was 32bit, while cinepaint (correctly) reported 16bit half. Preview.app confirms that cinepaint was correct. Ironic, isn't it? Pointless quips aside, I opened an actual 32bit .hdr and the brightness-contrast did work correctly. Thanks for catching my oversight, and sorry about that. So, yes, the bug should be changed to 16bit half float openexr, not 32bit.
