Downloading the tarball from SourceForge and building from source is the 
the alternative when a distro's CinePaint fails.

I haven't looked at CinePaint on Mandriva in a long time. One of the 
challenges to releasing CinePaint is finding volunteer package 
maintainers for the various distros.
