You will probably see that the histogram for the image is shifted to the left. Now move the middle slider for Input Levels to the left until the value 2.2 shows in the middle box (or you can enter 2.2 directly into the middle box). This will set the gamma to 2.2 and the image will brighten considerably. Without knowing anything more about the image, that's all I can say.
