The Internet has a lot of information on digital image manipulation but a lot of it is totally specific to Photoshop, as if there is nothing else. All too often an answer to a theoretical question such as "How do I filter an image?" will involve only a description of the Photoshop menu sequence for digital filtering. Needless to say, this doesn't really provide any meaningful information that can create a true understanding of the basic concepts. But the Internet is still a valuable source as long as the Photoshop specific sites are avoided. A good theoretical overview of all aspects of color management is found here: http://boscarol.com/pages/cms_eng/ This guy knows how to describe all the useful details of color management without getting too bogged down in technical matters. >From a theoretical perspective, probably everything you'll need to know can be found in this site. Another source for general digital techniques as well as some basic color management is found here: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials.htm This site is very comprehensive, but unless you are just a beginner, it can be a little too elementary in some places. Norman Koren seems to be cited often as a popular author for both general digital methods and color management, but I think that his explanations are somewhat obtuse and his style unclear. You may still want to check out his pages though: http://normankoren.com Here are some links that have helped me considerably at the beginning of my own learning: http://www.color.org/whycolormanagement.pdf http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/color_management.htm http://www.av8n.com/imaging/color-management.htm http://www.brucelindbloom.com/ For color science in general, a place to start is here: http://www.efg2.com/Lab/Library/Color/Science.htm Here is a link to a PDF file that deals specifically with Cinepaint and color management: http://www.behrmann.name/index.php?option=com_weblinks&task=view&catid=67&id=137&lang=en Also, Google is probably your best friend in this regard. A search for "color management" will bring up a trove of information, some highly technical. some simple and basic, and some intermediate. Of course, the problem then becomes the task of picking through all that information. Unfortunately, there can be no easy solution. Each site will have to be checked out one after the other until a suitable one is found. But with a bit of perseverance, a good library on color management and/or digital image techniques can be slowly accumulated -- and it'a all free.
