Yes, it's labeled "Resize window on zoom" in my locale. It could be a
useful feature, if it the resizing only occurred within pre-set bounds
and if -- more immportantly -- it preserved the viewport center.
Alternatively, it could perhaps be useful if it preserved the pointer
position relative to the image. Otherwise, the amount of mouse travel
and clicks needed to chase the self-resizing window is no smaller than
would be needed to simply drag a corner.

I still wonder whether it assumes the LUT has been loaded or not, or
whether such assumption would even be relevant.

How close would close be? I just compared them using ICCView; the
result is interesting. My display profile is about 3-4 times smaller
in volume, all contained within sRGB; it has a roughly similar shape
but it looks like it suffered a fender-bender in the green corner:
there it is rather more squashed towards the center than everywhere
else.

Now we're getting somewhere. I just did:

convert image.tif  -profile
/home/selkovjr/.color/icc/m4300-current.cal.icc -intent Perceptual
image-display.tif

and ascertained that "image-display.tif" looks identical to
"image.tif" in Cinepaint.

(for the record, IM's "convert" doesn't need the input profile
parameter if the profile is embedded in the input file -- in this
case, it is LStar-RGB; the output profile is the same as I applied to
my display with "dispwin")

However, when I convert it to sRGB (which is what my printer expects,
or a web browser), it looks drastically different. I am not sure I can
describe the difference, but overall it is quite desaturated, I see
what seem to be value inversions in some areas, and the areas most
affected appear to coincide with those marked in gray in "Gamut Check
Display": these are the darkest spots that show quite a bit of detail
in Cinepaint but become nearly black in the converted sRGB image.

Is it even reasonable to expect an sRGB output to look similar to what
I see in Cinepaint, where my workspace is LStar-sRGB?
