there's enough free space on your harddrive. I did this myself while
making the transition from Windows to Linux.

As a really user-friendly Linux distribution, I can highly recommend
Ubuntu Linux, which is based on Debian & is completely free of charge.
You can either download it from the Ubuntu
<http://www.ubuntu-linux.org/> web site, or have a CD shipped to
you (all over the world), which is also free of charge.

Regarding CinePaint: I don't know about the new Ubuntu 6.0 release
("Dapper Drake"), but the previous version 5.10 ("Breezy Badger") came with
CinePaint 0.19-1, which is available as a Debian package.  Installing
packages
is really a breeze; all you have to do is, to select the package
'cinepaint' in
Synaptic, Ubuntu's  packet manager, and CinePaint will be installed with all
the dependencies (read: required libraries, such as 'libtiff4-dev', and
others).

To obtain the latest CinePaint version, there's also the option to
compile it,
but if you're completely new to Linux, this is maybe a little too
difficult.

And if you need help regarding Ubuntu, there's a number of sites, like
http://www.ubuntuusers.de/ (which is in German), or the English Ubuntu site
(URL see above), which also has an online forum where you can get help.
