The problem is that Gegl was almost dead for a long time, and the code is still a good long way away from making it into Gimp. The next major version of Gimp will NOT be using Gegl, but will at least be incorporating color management. It's a step in the right direction but nowhere near ready for professional usage yet. If you don't believe me check out their cvs and compile it, and read from the news lists.
