We don't use either anymore. We switched to Krita, KOffice's imaging 
app. It's geared towards paint, and unlike Cinepaint and Gimp, it is 
actually usable by artists. And it has full OpenEXR support with color 
profiles and feels very 'Photoshoppy'
People just plain refuse to use Cinpaint for its non-existent usability 
and while Gimp is 'ok', it's far from Krita in usability and basically 
ruled out, because it only supports 8bit.

No bashing, just the facts. :)
