I have tried the gimp, cinepaint, nd Krita and the one I like the best is
Krita, but come things like exr and hdr (the only one that can deal with
them) I use cinpaint so far so good I do a combination of Cinepaint and
Krita. SO you ask for diff between the gimp and CInpaint. Gimp is much more
mature than Krita and cinepaint becuase cinepaint started moving to glasgow
and krita started later. It all depends in what you want to do if you want
to dela at all with anything else thatn 8 bit (Raw, Cineaon, Exr, hdr,
etc..) you should try cinepaint and Krita. My parents use the gimp for their
digital camera jpg and is fine for them or to write caption on their
picture, but I don't think is a tool for serius photographers or any 3d
pipeline. If you just want to do some touch up of tiff and jpg or png then
you are good using the gimp. I personally can't deal with it
interface.Theother difference is the roadmap and the diraction the
projects are taking.
You can look at Krita's road map her
http://wiki.koffice.org/index.php?title=Krita/ToDo it loks impresive. With
their chinese brushes and more their 2.0 release is going to be nice. I also
lik ecinepaint glasgow an the explanation that Robin gave is his blog so you
know exactly what to expect. As for a Gimp raodmpa I can't find any other
thatn the dream one http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/DreamRoadmap which is very
vague, so I don't know where they are heading. I know taht some day tehy
will Gelg but there is no reall timeframe other that we know is not fr the
next release. I can just tell you from personal expirience that the Krita
and Cinpeaint devs are really good at listening to you comments and request.
I have e-mailed the Krita team a few times with request and suggestions adn
they have being really good with my e-mail implementing my suggestions or
giving me a really good reason not to (most time it has being time, they
would probably implemented all if they could). The cinepaint devs have also
beign good at replying my e-mail and giving me an indication as to wheter
or not the porject will implement things like that.
