As I discovered a few days ago, there actually *is* a software that
runs under Linux (among other OSes), which is practically identical
(ok, more or less) with Photoshop. It is being developed by a Polish
programmer, and it is named "Pixel"
<http://www.kanzelsberger.com/pixel>. It has 32-bit/HDR, color
management, etc., but--judging by posts on the online forum--the
present version seems a bit buggy ("Unsharp Mask..."). The app
is commercial, although extremely inexpensive (USD 38.-; later
USD 100.-). The guy won't release it as open source, though (judging
by posts of his in the online forum).
