Re: [CinePaint] Change print size?

Hi Kai-Uwe,

I think it would be sufficient if there is a calculator showing the relation 
between resolution in dpi, actual pixel size and print size. At least for me, 
there is no need to actually display the image at print size (which would 
require to know also the monitor's dpi).

It is helpfull when I want to print, say, at 360 dpi to 20x30 cm print. It is 
better to resample (menu Image/Scale) the image to meet the required 2 835 x 
4 252 px and manually apply unsharp mask/whateverelse rather than leave this 
up to the printing application/driver (gimp-print, photoprint, external 
minilab) and its interpolation methods.

This can be done using a normal calculator added to Image/Scale and making 
sure that the resolution (dpi) info is saved with the image.

At the moment, cinepaint saves TIFF with the default 72 dpi (if there was a 
different dpi info before editing in cinepaint, the TIFF plugin rewrites it 
to 72), which then in gimp-print or photoprint leads to print size 5 times 
higher at default settings (hence requires manual scaling down to 20% to get 
back to the intended print size).

There are workarounds - I do calculate the pixel size manually, scale the 
image in cinepaint, and then run mogrify -density 360x360 my_picture.tif 
before printing. It would just better fit into a photographer's workflow.

So, if there is a wish-list, maybe it could be added.
