There are still quite a few valuable programs out there that continue to use Gtk-1 as their only toolkit. That is the major problem with Linux distributions. They tend to become far too monolithic and eliminate many choices for the user. That's why I decided a long time ago to abandon distributions and to maintain my own Linux system. Couldn't the Cinepaint developers provide a few generic compiled packages (e.g. RPM, .deb, .tar.gz) on the download site? Doing this shouldn't take too much extra effort and would reduce dependence on the distributions. I would like to contribute a package but I heavily customize my own Cinepaint version by removing the HDR and ICC Viewer functions and doing some other tweaks as well. I doubt if other users would desire that kind of modified Cinepaint.
