It should be possbly to create a script-fu script for such a task.

You find the DB browser and the script-fu console in the toolbox' script 
menu.

A very basic example is:
$ cinepaint -b "(file-tiff-load 1 \"`echo $PWD`/test.tif\" \"test.tif\")" "(gimp-display-new 1)" "(gimp-quit 0)"
It will open test.tif, then display it and imediately close the session.

Can you continue from here in write your own script? Probably the internet 
has some tutorials about script-fu.
