The outputs just scan out whatever is in the framebuffer. the drawing engine manipulates teh contents of the famebuffer. The component output is not supported by the driver, and the fact that it works is probably due to the bios having initalized it at boot up. Regardless of what output you are using the radeon driver accelerates 2D (filled rectangles, blits, lines, etc.) and 3D (openGL -- triangles, textures, etc.). Only 2D acceleration is available on XPRESS chips due to the fact that when 3D is intialized the chip locks up hard. Ati has never released any documentation about the XPRESS chips, so it's not clear what additional initialization is needed. It is surmised that the memory controller needs additional set up.
