DRI woes with RV280 and i875P

Hi,

I've been struggling for a week now to get dri work on the following
machine:

P4 3.2GHz, 3GB RAM, Intel i875P chipset and Ati RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE]
graphics card.

The machine runs Debian unstable, 2.6.18, latest xorg and Mesa/DRI from
git (yesterday). As soon as the system is up, Dri is enabled according
to the xorg log file. Typing glxinfo in the console give lots of errors
like

DISPATCH ERROR! _glapi_add_dispatch failed to add glAreTexturesResident!
DISPATCH ERROR! _glapi_add_dispatch failed to add glGenTextures!
DISPATCH ERROR! _glapi_add_dispatch failed to add glIsTexture!
[...]

but dri is reported to be enabled. Starting an opengl application
results in its immediate crash, again issuing the error messages shown
above. Logging out and restarting X disables dri and everything works
fine, yet slow. What also worries me is the behaviour of intel-agp.ko on
this machine. Iirc after loading the module some info about the detected
chipset should be presented. On the contrary the module loads without
any line of output. I also tried the fglrx driver, which issued:

[agp] unable to acquire AGP, error "xf86_ENODEV"
cannot init AGP

Any hints how to tame this machine are greatly appreciated.
