I'd love to forget about the fglrx driver (there was a long yet unsuccessful discussion on rage3d.com) but I expect an even better performance. We use a grid generator for computational fluid dynamics, which gets really slow when rotating/zooming large meshes, but with r200 & dri things have become much better. Not smooth but quite useable.
