Hi there.

I'm planning to buy an laptop, which should run linux.

There are roughly 2 choices:
a) Intel
b) AMD

while Intel (at least Centrino) has fairly good linux support,
AMD's are quite a bit cheaper for comparable hardware.

Now i want to know the state of Radeon XPress 1100 support in Linux.

As this is only integrated Graphics, i do not plan to play doom3, etc,
on this thingie. BUT i want to (be able to) use AIGLX features with
compiz / beryl.

I know that ATi has proprietary drivers, but i am reluctant to install
proprietary drivers just for getting basic Desktop stuff running. BTW,
ATi's prop. drivers aren't known to be the most stable stuff.

So, the question is:

Is there some degree of support for this chipset for AIGLX, or should i
invest a few bucks and get Centrino ?

Or, are there any other supported chipsets known to be found on Turion
X2 based notebooks (Via)?

Tom

PS: i'm not subscribed to the list, plz reply to SaTaN0rX at arcor.de
