That port isn't getting opened up. It should use port 80 like everything else can. I read the subversion paragraph and it still makes no sense: Multiple backends are not a bad thing, regardless of you how you try an spin it. The closest a concrete reason against subversion that ever comes up is that he doesn't like the filesystem backend because he doesn't understand it and then goes off on a rant about how that could be bad over NFS. (Noone runs a subversion repository that fronts an NFS drive.) There's never any citation from Mozilla saying, you know SVN is really big and that is bad. In fact, there are several citations out there you can find that will explain why that was a good choice. Guess what - works over firewalls is one of the things that they like. I never read about kernel.org tipping over either from not using GIT. Strange actually that GIT isn't even in the top 5 SCM systems used on planet earth... I mean its just so great If you really care that much about the number of files or size of them, you could plugin another backend! Wait a second... this might be crazy but, if you think the google backend is too slow you plugin a caching backend that wraps googles! Now this gets really crazy, but if you still think thats not reliable enough - you could plugin a backend that decorates another with some checksums, writes to an additional location. But come on, its crazy, this multiple backend stuff ... I mean, what is the world coming to. What if someone wrote an interface that would provide some abstraction over multiple kinds of graphics hardware backends... why, that's just nuts! Madness I tell you! Ultimately, Keith just picked something he liked and didn't really consider things like usability. He just decided he liked GIT. >From: "Jerome Glisse" <[email protected]> >To: "First Last" <[email protected]> >CC: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [Dri-users] Why GIT, guys?
