Hi Sebastian,

I'm using Slackware current and I had the same problem like you with my mach64.
I solved it by getting and installing the xorg ati driver from head.
git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati

Now I have direct rendering working...
