I tried (as documented in the wiki at
http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/TestingAndDebugging)

export LIBGL_SOFTWARE_RENDERING=1
glxinfo

and got

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM 4.1.3002
