I'll post a quick update. After a "emerge --sync" and "emerge -av --update --newuse --deep world" root seems to be able to start dvdrip-master, but my normal user account can't. Still shows the same error. Will "emerge --unmerge dvdrip" then "emerge dvdrip" see if it's now a permissions issue that 'should' sort it's self out when re-emerged. Will keep people posted.
