Audio Sync Problem

Hi There,

I've been a user of dvd::rip for quite some time now and helped a few
people with questions on the mailing list, however I've come across a
problem of my own now, hopefully someone might know a solution.

On some videos that I encode I start getting a gradual audio sync issue,
i.e. first 40 minutes everything is in sync, 50 minutes it starts to
unsync, 70 minutes well out of sync.

I encode large amounts 100+ disks a week(currently backing up my dvd
collection to NAS) and have only ever noticed some movies loosing audio
sync rather than TV series.

I have tried encoding the back end of the videos and everything is in
sync however when I encode the full thing I get the audio sync issue
again. This to me suggests that it only happens on pro-longed encoding
as it looses audio sync gradually.

I have tried the following audio options:

AC3 audio (No filters)
MP3 128 bitrate @ 44000hz & 48000hz (No filters)
MP3 192 bitrate @ 44000hz & 48000hz (No filters)
MP3 128 bitrate @ 44000hz & 48000hz (Normalizing Filter)
MP3 192 bitrate @ 44000hz & 48000hz (Normalizing Filter)

I've also tried the "Scan Value" option before encoding.


***Background Info***

I'm encoding PAL disks not NTSC (I'm aware of some audio sync issues
with NTSC)

I use 8 cores via cluster (Also tried using a single core without cluster)

I currently use Ubuntu 7.10 (Fully updated) although I have tried it in
 Gentoo 2007

***Current Versions***

dvd::rip 0.98.6 (latest version not released in the repository yet and
there isn't a significant change in the change log to warrant compiling)

transcode v1.0.2

If you need any more info, logs etc please just ask and I'll include
them. By all means suggest things that I can do as I can test encodes in
as little as 20 minutes so continual testing isn't an issue.
