I wanted to follow up and let everyone know there is a work around for to get files created with DVD:RIP to play on the jensen and panasonic head units that have DivX capabilities.

I did some digging and found another VM9021TS user that said he was able to play avi files created with ffmpeg. I called Jensen and their tech support said they only officially support MPEG4.

If the codec selected is set to ffmpeg/MPEG4 the files play on the head unit. Unfortunately numerous titles were transcoded using XVID. As an added benefit the FPS while encoding using ffmpeg/MPEG jumped from 32 to 43 on the first pass.

I have an interesting issue with my files created using DVD::RIP. I have a Jensen VM9021TS DVD player in my car. It has an SD card reader that will play AVI files. I know for sure it plays avi files created with another tool. However, it did not play files created with DVD::RIP. I have included the avitype informatio showing the metadata for each file. Is there an avi or other tool (mencoder) that can correct this?  -----------Good File, Not Created With DVD::RIP-------<reader> : Checking: good_file_will_play.avi<AVI reader> : MainHeader: MicroSecPerFrame=41708 MaxBytesPerSec=0 PaddingGranularity=0 Flags=[ HAS_INDEX IS_INTERLEAVED ] TotalFrames=86314 InitialFrames=0 Streams=2 SuggestedBufferSize=0 WxH=720x416 Scale=0 Rate=0 Start=0 Length=0<AVI Reader> : Info: fccHandler differs from biCompression!<AVI reader> : StreamHeader: Type=vids Handler=XVID Flags=[ ] InitialFrames=0 Scale=125 Rate=2997 Start=0 Length=86314 SuggestedBufferSize=65921 Quality=10000 SampleSize=0 Rect l,r,t,b=0,720,0,416<AVI reader> : StreamHeader: Type=auds Handler=0x0 Flags=[ ] InitialFrames=1 Scale=1152 Rate=48000 Start=0 Length=150001 SuggestedBufferSize=960 Quality=-1 SampleSize=0 Rect l,r,t,b=0,56,12,-1848rs r:0 ds:72   t:1413894985  s:43<AVI reader> : InfoChunk Software:  VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 (build 2178/release)addd 0  44rs r:44 ds:72   t:827539785  s:8addd 44  8rs r:52 ds:72   t:1263424842  s:1302addd 52  1302<AVI reader> : Reading index from offset: 354835678<AVI reader> : Stream 0 vids : XVID (0x44495658) 86314 chunks (337.16KB)<AVI reader> : Stream 1 auds : MPEG Layer-3 (0x55) 150001 chunks (1171.88KB)   -----------Bad File, Created With DVD::RIP-------<reader> : Checking: bad_file_will_not_play.avi<AVI reader> : MainHeader: MicroSecPerFrame=41708 MaxBytesPerSec=0 PaddingGranularity=0 Flags=[ HAS_INDEX IS_INTERLEAVED ] TotalFrames=190542 InitialFrames=0 Streams=2 SuggestedBufferSize=0 WxH=768x416 Scale=0 Rate=0 Start=0 Length=0<AVI reader> : StreamHeader: Type=vids Handler=XVID Flags=[ ] InitialFrames=0 Scale=1000000 Rate=23976024 Start=0 Length=190542 SuggestedBufferSize=136356 Quality=0 SampleSize=0 Rect l,r,t,b=0,0,0,0<AVI reader> : StreamHeader: Type=auds Handler=0x0 Flags=[ ] InitialFrames=0 Scale=1 Rate=24000 Start=0 Length=190731521 SuggestedBufferSize=0 Quality=-1 SampleSize=1 Rect l,r,t,b=0,0,0,0rs r:0 ds:28   t:1413894985  s:16<AVI reader> : InfoChunk Software:  transcode-1.0.2addd 0  16rs r:16 ds:28   t:1263424842  s:1666addd 16  1666<AVI reader> : Reading index from offset: 1669092078<AVI reader> : Stream 0 vids : XVID (0x44495658) 190542 chunks (744.30KB)<AVI reader> : Stream 1 auds : MPEG Layer-3 (0x55) 190542 chunks (1488.61KB)
