yes, deleting the ps1 file and doing "create" now works.

the strange thing is that this only seemed to happen with this dvd.

i think this might be because the first time i ripped it, my user did not
have mount privileges on the dvd drive.   this isn't required for
video/audio ripping, but is required to get the ifo file for subs and
dvd::rip was silently failing.

perhaps the requirement of mount access should be added to the docs for
subtitles?
