How to use dvdrip?

Hi, 

I've tried dvdrip in Slackware and after fulfilling all the dependencies, 
which was like hell,  I still can't rip a DVD. 
I installed the program in OpenSUSE and tried it there, but it is not possible 
to rip a DVD.
What is the purpose of dvdrip. It is impossible to rip a DVD? How should I use 
the program? There is no way you can rip a DVD in this program?  Or please 
tell me how to use it.
