I am practising this sometimes manually when encoding tv series dvds 
using multiple dvd::rip instances:

1. First start dvd::rip and read the dvd contents.
2. Then read the contents of the first episode and configure the 
transcoding process and start it after saving the configuration.
3. Now start a second dvd::rip instance and load the project. The dvd 
contents should already match the disc in the drive.
4. Read the content of the second episode, configure the transcoding 
process and start it.
5. Continue with step 3 until you don't have anymore episodes on the 
disc or your cpu gets too hot :)

Using this recipe you can already use the power of a multicore cpu 
using dvd::rip even though the program has no direct multicore support 
yet.
