I'm seeing something similar... But not with the menu event, but with
down and up. When pressing down, I can see going down the selector one
item, but immediatly going down to the end of the list (tested in the
main menu). Going up again, results in the same (but reversed).

Actually, I'm also running an irman (but using LIRC).

For now, my girlfriend could be living using the keyboard for the time
being ;), but:
I'm seeing another problem with dvbstreamer, but I'll start another
thread.
