Play yes, in fact all the apps should be able to play the disc, it's more 
an issue if you try and back up the discs which involves reading every 
sector, even sectors that will never be played. At this point the backup 
fails as the sectors have errors in them that prevent copying. In this way 
they can stop ripping but still ensure that the dvd will play on your £50 
DVD player from your local supermarket...
