thanks for your reply. My fontpath variable in etc/berlinrc correctly points
to my Type1 fonts directory. The Berlin font chooser displays only one of
the fonts and omits the others. It won't even use that one font when I select
it, but draws all widgets with no text. Same thing when I change the font path
so it points to my TrueType directory, in which case the font list consists
of the sole entry "Wingdings Regular". Selecting that font produces no text
either, not even funny Wingdings characters.

Using the 100dpi or 75dpi fonts dir results in random lines for characters.

I tried compiling against different versions of FreeType, but it didn't make
a difference.

Any ideas?
